Como Tú: The Death and Rebirth of a Music Video

02/14/2013 by Fred Huergo

…or salvaging a collapsing project through the beauty of low fi. Backstory A few months ago Alex Marín set up a meeting between myself and the band Gérmen 00 to make a music video for an 8-bit/chiptune song. The project was pro-bono, allowing me full creative control. It was both an exciting and daunting proposition, but I was all for it. Alex and I started banging out story ideas and finally focused on one. Then proceeded to work with Sarah Goodreau on […]

Amsterdam CMM Talk: Get A Job | Keep It Fun

04/01/2012 by Fred Huergo

This Friday I gave a guest talk to the recently graduated students from Amsterdam’s College of MultiMedia Cinema4D class, taught by Maxon trainer Lars Scholten. I was asked to talk about my experience in Motion and Broadcast design, as well as give insight on how to get a job coming straight out of studying. I thought it a great idea, but also saw it as an opportunity to talk about how personal work not only gets you noticed, but is important to keep […]

Dipping into Kinect

03/31/2012 by Fred Huergo

We’ve had a Kinect hanging around at SuperHeroes for a while now, which we’ve used in collaboration with Magic Bullet on some projects. One one of those projects, Istvan Pataki (one of the developers at MB) and I were talking about making a plugin that would put the mocap Kinect skeleton into C4D. This was before Microsoft released the source code to the public, and when Magic Bullet was one of the few companies to have hacked the Kinect for […]

Cornucopious: Animated

03/29/2012 by Fred Huergo

I originally thought of the original Cornucopious to be just a still, but it had so much dynamism to it that I decided to animate it for 10 seconds. It doesn’t hurt that the spheres in the center where already animated via Thinking Particles, so one step was already done. The spheres and the ‘candy blocks’ where animated using Thinking Particles (the latter one had two emitters following a spline). The rings were also dynamic and helped push the spheres […]

Cornucopius

03/26/2012 by Fred Huergo

Here’s a render that started out as messing around with some Subsurface Scattering, which led to messing around with some glassy/plastic materials with subtle Index of Refractions. The spheres have the most SSS, and they were created using MoDynamic Thinking Partcles on the spheres to have them repulse each other. The little rectangle candies are done using a Cloner Object cloned along a spline.

Bare Bones x SuperHeroes

03/26/2012 by Fred Huergo

Last week some of the crew from Bare Bones came over to Amsterdam for an event/show hosted by Sid Lee. We got in touch with Matt Lambert and he asked us to do some quick videos to add into the show. He gave us some slow-motion footage he had shot earlier that day and wanted us to give it the Bare Bones treatment. With a time limit of a couple of hours, we hashed out 4 videos. The team consisted of […]

Shiny, Melty Superheroes

03/26/2012 by Fred Huergo

Recently SuperHeroes got their own WeTransfer channel. For those that don’t know what WeTransfer is, it’s a great way to send files (up to 2GB). It also has a nice, clean UI that goes really well with a slideshows feature that they have. Usually it’s artwork that they select, but when you get your own channel you can do personal branding – great for a design company. Tasked with doing a quick render, I decided to play a bit with […]

SuperHeroes Power #24: Friendly Fire

02/24/2012 by Fred Huergo

Behold the latest in the superpowers series, Friendly Fire. By far this one has been the most fun to work on yet. It has more of a story than the previous ones, and it had some aspects that were challenging which in turn made it fun. This was my first jump into fluid dynamics to recreate fire. If there’s one thing I learned, is to mind the render times when you get layers of simulations. The first few shots rendered […]

crisp.

02/20/2012 by Fred Huergo

“crisp.” Seeds, nodes, connections, and underlying structures; the small parts that make up a whole. This was a quick test to check some render speeds/settings that ended up turning into something more – what started as a test ended up becoming a little passion project.

SuperHeroes Power #83: Iceleration

02/14/2012 by Fred Huergo

It’s my pleasure to announce the first in a series of SuperHeroes themed animations. We’ve got a few already done and ready, but will be released later on – a trickle of animations, if you will. These are based off some models I had made earlier based off the SuperHeroes branding avatars. The premise of these series is a warehouse/testing-room where the SuperHeroes avatars showcase their unique abilities and SuperPowers. Because the ice is melting here in Amsterdam, and because […]

SuperHeroes Alien: Turntable Test

10/02/2011 by Fred Huergo

A quick test while setting this guy up for animation!     The antennae and the laser beams still have some work (shading as well as animation). This Alien character is one of the many from SuperHeroes branding. Check out this earlier post to see stills of them.
