It’s been a while since we’ve had a Stop Motion Saturday. It’s back, and this time in a whole different format: the classic animated Gif.

Much in the genre of one of our previous stopmo’s, Make and Old Fashioned, this is a recipe for the Ramos Gin Fizz (a drink made popular in the 1880′s). This time it’s brought to you in poster form, but for web.

This one was a lot of fun to animate – we used a black t-shirt for a backdrop, and numerous little tricks to hold stuff together. The dropper had a little holder/armature with a counter-weight, which was later masked out. The pour from the shaker had a very jerry-rigged construction consisting of chopsticks, a vice-grip, and rubber bands. And last but not least, was the foam. Trying to animate real emulsified egg whites was surely going to be a problem (and we didn’t have enough light to shoot video at ISO 100) – so instead we used something that looked just like it: shaving cream!

Sarah worked on the layout while I did some rotoscoping, grading, minor fx, and of course, the loops.

Here are some pictures of our setups while we were prepping and shooting.
